温泉の名物

山形で超有名な薄皮饅頭
中條屋は創業1862年の老舗で、かみのやま温泉の中心・新湯温泉街にある和菓子店。温泉街を降りていくと、饅頭を蒸かす湯気が勢いよく出ていて、温泉街に情緒を感じさせている。ここの薄皮饅頭「中條饅頭」は、かみのやま温泉の名物として親しまれていて、山形では知らない人はいないほど。黒糖を練り込んだ薄皮の中には、舌触りのよいこし餡が入っていて、上品かつ絶妙な甘さが人気。餡は、こし餡の黒餡と白餡の2種類がある。

温泉のあれこれ

上山藩と藩政時代の湯の歴史
かみのやま温泉は、古くから東山、湯野浜温泉とともに奥羽三楽郷として栄えてきた。藩政時代にはこの地に上山城と上山藩が置かれ、温泉は藩の管理となり共同浴場や温泉宿が整備され温泉町として発展。城下町としても、羽州街道の宿場町としても賑わった。江戸時代に庶民に開放された共同浴場「下大湯」や、下級武士のための「鶴の湯」などが今も残っている。
