温泉の名物

天然の炭酸泉を使用したサイダー
肘折温泉は1万年前、火山活動でできた肘折カルデラの中にあり、様々な温泉が自然湧出している。そのひとつ、日帰り入浴施設の「カルデラ温泉館」では、良質の冷たい炭酸泉（二酸化炭素冷鉱泉）が湧き出ていて、これを10％加え、おいしいサイダーに仕上げたのが「肘折カルデラサイダー」。一般的なサイダーに比べてまろやかで味わい深いと評判。風呂上がりに最高だ。

温泉のあれこれ

肘折温泉の伝統行事「さんげさんげ」
死者の魂が集まる山として信仰される霊峰月山。肘折温泉はその遙拝登山口であり、身を清めてから登る湯垢離場（ゆごりば）としての開湯伝承を持つ。それを伝える行事「さんげさんげ」が毎年1月に催される。出羽三山に伝わる年越し行事で、山伏に扮した白装束の村人たちが人の六感から生ずるけがれを落とし、無病息災・五穀豊穣を願い、「さんげさんげ、六根罪障」と唱え法螺貝の音と共に温泉街を練り歩く。「さんげ」は懺悔に由来。
