温泉の名物

熊野地方の、目を見張る大きさの郷土食
めはり寿司とは、熊野地方の名物郷土食で、高菜漬けの葉でご飯を包んだおにぎり。昔は、野良仕事や山仕事の弁当で、麦飯の握り飯を高菜で巻き込んで作っていたが、現在はもっぱら白米を用い、酢飯を使うこともある。子どもの頭ほどもある大きさのため、目をカッと見張るほど口を開けないと食べられないからとか、目を見張るほどおいしいからというのが名前の由来。具も、刻んだ高菜漬けの軸・ごま・じゃこ・鰹節など様々だ。

渡瀬温泉を使った現代風の湯治施設
「湯バイバル・モア」クアハウス熊野本宮は、多目的温泉保養館。かつての湯治を、現在風にアレンジし、科学的に健康づくりを考えた施設。うたせ湯・気泡湯・スチームサウナなど8種類の入浴設備を備え、トレーニング施設や、休憩用の広間もある。バンガローやキャンプ場・薬草ハーブ園も併設。
