温泉の名物

富山の銘菓のひとつ、「おわら玉天」
八尾町の代表的なお菓子といえば「おわら玉天」。新鮮な卵を泡立て、砂糖、寒天を加えて淡雪羹を作り、表面に黄身をつけ狐色に焼き上げたもの。淡泊で柔らかく、軽くまろやかな味は絶品。複数の店で提供されているが、明治中期に、林盛堂本店の2代目・林駒次郎氏により考案された。

温泉のあれこれ

艶やかで美しい祭り「おわら風の盆」
二百十日の風を治め、五穀豊穣を祈る民謡行事「越中八尾おわら風の盆」は、三百余年の歴史を持つ。毎年9月1日～3日には、八尾町全域が数千のぼんぼりやまん灯、まん幕で飾られ、三味線や胡弓が奏でる「越中おわら節」に合わせて、踊り手たちが唄い踊り、町を流し歩く。このおわらの踊りには、「豊年踊り」「男踊り」「女踊り」の3つがあり、地方の奏でる哀調を帯びた旋律と、艶容な踊りとが紡ぎ出す情緒は何ともいえない。
