温泉の名物

庄川遊覧船でゆったり訪れる断崖の秘湯
大牧温泉は、庄川流域の断崖にある一件宿の秘湯として名高い。現地への交通機関は、1日数回出航する小牧ダムからの庄川遊覧船ひとつで、緑色の湖面と渓谷の木々を堪能しながら約30分で到着する。桜がそよぐ春、緑萌える夏、秋麗や墨絵に似た景色の冬など、川を行く船旅のひとときも風情ひとしお。ダム湖に面した宿からのんびり釣り糸をたれるのも一興だ。

温泉のあれこれ

巨大なダム湖に沈んだ村と秘湯開湯伝説
小牧ダムの湖底にはかつて湯治場のある村落があり、1183年に倶利伽羅合戦より逃れた平家の落武者が辿り着き、庄川の渓谷に温泉を発見したことに始まったと伝わる。昭和初期に、小牧ダムの建設により村が水没。豊富な源泉は、現在湖水上に唯一残った温泉宿で楽しめる。ダムは2002年に国の登録有形文化財として指定を受け、自然豊かな湖畔はウグイ、ニジマスなどの渓流釣りや、バードウォッチングに最適だ。
