温泉の名物

ぜひとも食べたい名物の栃餅
地元の山に自生する栃の実を、餅米と一緒に蒸してつきあげた「とち餅」は、お土産の定番商品。地元の人にも人気で、売切れになることも多い。ひと口サイズのお餅はうっすら白く粉で化粧されていて、お餅の色も栃の実の色そのもの。そしてお餅の中身は小豆餡が基本。独特の風味で素朴なおいしさの「とち餅」は、三徳川にかかる恋谷橋すぐそばの「松之屋」ほかで買うことができる。

温泉のあれこれ

千年に迫る白狼伝説の古湯
千年に迫る古湯・三朝温泉は、三度朝を迎えると病が治るといわれてきた。伝説によれば1163年、源頼朝の家臣・大久保左馬之祐が源氏の再興を祈願し、三徳山三仏寺に赴いた際、命を救った白狼が夢見で湯が湧き出る場所を教えたとされる。この湯が公衆浴場「株湯」として残されていて、江戸時代には地元の人たちに利用されていた。明治以降は、与謝野鉄幹・晶子夫妻、野口雨情、志賀直哉、斎藤茂吉、島崎藤村ら多くの文人も訪れた。
