温泉の名物

温泉名物はホクホクの揚げたてコロッケ
温泉を代表する美味として名を馳せるコロッケの名店が、川治ふれあい公園近くの「坂文精肉店」。昔ながらの懐かしい味付けだが、北海道の今金男爵を使い、ホクホク感とサクサクの衣の歯触りが絶妙。10種類余りのバリエーションのほか、味わいと揚げ加減が光る鳥のモモ揚げなども人気がある。雑誌やテレビの番組でも紹介されること多数で、遠方からの立ち寄りも多く、夕方には売り切れる品もあるので、早めの訪問がおすすめだ。

温泉のあれこれ

ご利益とインパクト無限大！？の霊石
温泉街の薬師の湯近くに「おなで石」という霊石が鎮座する。戦後の鬼怒川の氾濫の際、上流で発見された女陰に似た形象のある石で、亀裂をなでて願い事を祈念するとかなえられるといい、念願成就の御礼に奉納された石がずらりと並ぶ。祠の中にも、周囲にも、男根を象った石があまりに多く並んでいるため、ご本尊がわかりにくい。手をのばして祠の男根石に触れる人もいるが、祠前のシンプルな長方形の石が真の「おなで石」だという。
