Tourist Attraction Information

The bamboo forest path, Shuzenji Temple, Shigetsuden, Hie Shrine, Katsura Bridge, the graves of Minamoto no Noriyori and Yoriie, etc. are all located in the hot spring town. The plum grove is also within walking distance.

皮も餡も真っ黒！名物の胡麻饅頭
修禅寺門前にある饅頭の専門店「饅頭総本山源楽」の「源楽胡麻饅頭」は、修善寺温泉名物となっている。外観も中のごま餡も真っ黒な饅頭で、これは皮に竹炭が入っているため。葛入りのモチモチとした柔らかな食感と、黒ごまをたっぷりと練り込んだごま餡の風味がおいしいと評判。売り切れ次第終了になるので、早めに買っておこう。

温泉のあれこれ

修善寺温泉と独鈷の湯と弘法大師
空海（弘法大師）は807年、病んだ父親の体を修善寺川で洗う少年を見かけた。その孝行ぶりに感心し、「川の水では冷たかろう」と、独鈷杵で川の岩を砕き、霊泉を噴出させた。この湯で父親は長年の病がたちまち治ったと噂が広まり、修善寺温泉が始まったとされる。温泉街のシンボルともなっている「独鈷の湯」の名の由来になった空海の独鈷杵は、実際に1961年に近くの修禅寺の裏山から出土し、修禅寺の宝物殿で公開されている。
