堂ヶ島温泉人気のご当地グルメ2品
「海賊焼」は、イカスミ麺の海鮮風塩焼きそば。まっ黒い麺が、地元の「堂ヶ島火祭り」の荒々しい海賊征伐のシーンをイメージすることから名付けられた。麺の黒、海苔の緑、紅しょうがの紅色のコントラストが目を引く。「しおかつおうどん」は、西伊豆の伝統的な保存食のしおかつおの焼き身と、ごま・海苔・ワカメ・鰹節・刻みねぎに温泉卵をトッピングし、だし醤油をかけてかき混ぜて食べるうどん。共にお土産用も売られている。

温泉のあれこれ

三四郎島のトンボロ現象
三四郎島は、堂ヶ島の沖合約200mにある象島・中ノ島・沖ノ瀬島・高島からなる4つの島で、海の干満の差により陸と地続きになるトンボロ現象が起きる。干潮になると幅約30mの浜ができ、濡れずに島に渡れる。磯の海岸で起きるのは珍しく、さらに潮の干満によって浮き沈みする浜は極めて珍しい。県の天然記念物に指定され、磯遊びに最適。三四郎島には源氏の若武者・三四郎と、仁科の豪族の娘・小雪との悲恋伝説が伝わっている。
