温泉の名物

あっぱれなシフォンケーキ
妙高市が選ぶ「あっぱれ妙高の逸品」に認定されている「もちや菓子舗」の「米粉バターシフォン」は、生地には新潟県産のコシヒカリの米粉が入っていて、発酵バターを使い、香りよく仕上げた品。ふんわりかつもっちりとした食感が評判となっている。金・土曜限定のクロワッサンもおすすめだ。

温泉のあれこれ

妙高山と妙高温泉
妙高高原駅は、標高2454mの「越後富士」妙高山に抱かれた妙高高原の南の玄関口。その高台に開けた温泉街が妙高温泉で、1911年に赤倉温泉の分湯として開湯、1921年には妙高山麓の南地獄谷からの引湯に成功。歓楽温泉として栄え、昔ながらの飲食店や商店も多い。駅に近く、上信越道妙高高原ICにも約1kmと交通の便がよく、大きく裾野を広げる妙高山の全貌を望めるのはこの妙高温泉だけ。妙高観光の拠点に便利な温泉街だ。
