温泉の名物

一茶ゆかりの温泉地の名物まんじゅう
湯田中温泉の名物は、創業1891年の中村屋菓子店の「一茶まんじゅう」。小ぶりで、黒砂糖を使った茶色い皮に、餡はこし餡で、ほんのり効いた塩味と、上品な甘さが絶妙。商品名は、湯田中温泉に晩年の小林一茶がしばしば滞在したことに由来。湯田中温泉には「一茶の散歩道」が整備され、一茶が逗留した旅館「湯田中湯本」の敷地内には「一茶・井泉水記念俳句資料館湯薫亭」がある。

温泉のあれこれ

松代藩お気に入りの保養地
湯田中温泉は1350年以上の歴史を誇り、草津街道の宿場町として栄えた。真田真之が松代藩主になってから藩の領地となり、「ごてんの湯」に本陣が置かれ、藩主の保養地ともなった。歴代藩主の中には、湯田中温泉をいたく気に入り、わざわざお湯を城内に持ち帰った藩主もいたといわれている。温泉街の中では、当時の面影を残す建物も見ることができる。
