ツアーもできるほど人気の根曲がり竹
根曲がり竹は、標高の高い深山にしか生息しない細長いたけのこ。独特の風味と甘みがあり、シャキシャキとした歯ごたえが特徴。志賀高原周辺の人たちは6月頃になると、こぞって山に入って根曲がり竹を採り、観光用のたけのこ狩りツアーも開催される。最もポピュラーな根曲がり竹料理がたけのこ汁。ホテルや食堂などでも、焼きたけのこ、炊き込みご飯や天ぷらなどを食べることができる。時期には根曲がり竹入りパンも販売される。

温泉のあれこれ

四季折々の山野草が楽しめる湿原
高天ヶ原湿原には、全長約1.3kmの木道「せせらぎ遊歩道」が整備されていて、「上の湿原」、「中の湿原」、「下の湿原」、「ダイヤモンド湿原」、「奥の湿原」と巡ることができる。湿生植物の宝庫で、5月にはミズバショウやリュウキンカが見られ、夏にはクガイソウ、オオウバユリ、ツルコケモモ、クルマユリ等が楽しめる。湿原内を流れる小雑魚川では、イワナの泳ぐ姿を見ることもできる。
