温泉の名物

志賀高原の新名所「平床大噴泉」
熊の湯ほたる温泉と木戸池の間の国道沿いで、もうもうと湯煙を上げる志賀高原の「平床大噴泉」。今では志賀高原のシンボルになるほどの場所で、秋になると周辺は紅葉の絶好の撮影スポットとなる。1991年にここで湧き出したのが、ほたる温泉の源泉でひとつで、大噴泉の周りは温泉公園として整備されている。

温泉のあれこれ

志賀高原のゲンジボタルは真夏が見ごろ
志賀高原は、天然記念物のゲンジボタルの生息地としても有名。ここは日本最高所の生息地であり、さらに幼虫の上陸期間や成虫の発生期間が日本一長く、成虫の寿命も長いことで知られる。「ほたる温泉」という名もここから由来しているとされ、7月中旬～8月中旬にかけて観賞できる。山岳地以外でも、宿の近くでホタルが観賞でき、満天の星空を見上げながら、ホタル舞う空間で湯に浸かるという、幻想的な体験ができるかも知れない。
