Tourist Attraction Information

Bessho Onsen, known as the "Kamakura of Shinshu," is home to many ancient temples and pagodas, including Kitamuki Kannon, Anraku-ji Temple, and Joraku-ji Temple, making it a pleasant place to stroll around.

Highlights

It is said to be the oldest hot spring in Shinshu. It is weakly alkaline and has skin-beautifying properties, making it famous as a "beauty bath." The three outdoor baths are also impressive.

温泉と松茸、贅沢な秋の楽しみ方
松茸の産地としても知られる別所温泉。周辺の山では、秋になると自生する赤松林の中で松茸がたくさん採れる。山には松茸小屋が点在し、松林の中で、松茸の姿焼き、松茸ご飯、松茸の土瓶蒸し、松茸の天ぷらなど野趣に富んだ松茸尽くしの料理を食べることができ、場所によってはきのこ狩りも楽しめる。

温泉のあれこれ

信州の鎌倉と呼ばれる別所温泉
別所温泉のある塩田郡は、古代から信濃国の政治・文化の中心地だった。別所の名の由来は、平維茂が鬼女の退治を北向観音に祈願し、見事討ち取ったので、この地に「別業」（現代の別荘）を建て、別所と呼んだからだとされる。後に木曽義仲の戦術により、別所の多くの寺院は焼かれたが、焼失した寺院は源頼朝、次いで塩田北条氏が再建。こうして鎌倉・室町時代からの古刹が多いことから「信州の鎌倉」と呼ばれるようになった。
