南三陸の新鮮な海の幸が味わえる、一軒宿の「ホテル観洋」でも、特に人気の2品がある。「アワビの踊り焼き」は、新鮮な活きアワビを目の前の陶板で焼き上げる。乳白色の1切れを頬張れば、柔らかな歯ごたえとともに磯の香りが口の中に広がっていく。もう1品は「フカヒレの姿煮」。気仙沼産のフカヒレを、中華伝統の手法により、何種類もの食材からじっくりととったスープで仕上げる逸品だ。

復興の拠点のスタッフが語るツアー
東日本大震災で甚大な被害を受けた南三陸町。南三陸ホテル観洋は、建物自体は2階の天井まで津波に襲われたが、頑丈な岩盤の高台にあったため、難を逃れた。震災後は、いち早くボランティアや避難住民の受け入れをするなど、地域復興の拠点となった。震災を風化させないよう、このホテルでは宿泊者対象にスタッフ自らが語り部となってガイドするバスツアーを連日運行している。
