タヌキゆかりの湯河原のご当地グルメ
「温泉で傷を癒す雌雄のタヌキが夫婦となり、神使として温泉を守る」との伝説が伝わる湯河原。そのタヌキと、親しみやすく軽妙なタヌキの歌にかけて、町内独自のグルメメニュー「坦々焼きそば」が誕生。練りごまと豆板醤が生きたピリ辛風味が特徴で、地元産レモンや清美オレンジ風味の漂う「湯河原柑橘系」と、温泉卵か、そのアレンジで煮卵や目玉焼きが添えられる「温泉卵系」がある。気軽なB級メニューとして人気上昇中だ。

温泉のあれこれ

万葉集や文学に登場する癒しの温泉地
古くから名湯と名を馳せた湯河原は、万葉集に「あしかりの土肥の歌」として唯一登場する温泉と、歌人佐々木信綱に指摘されている。その湯と佇まいは文人墨客に好まれ、国木田独歩は「湯河原より」「湯河原ゆき」で短編小説の舞台として扱ったほか、夏目漱石は湯河原で絶筆の「明暗」を執筆。芥川龍之介は「トロッコ」「一塊の土」「百合」を滞在中に著すなど、数々の著名人が湯河原に癒され、滞在中に創造の力を蓄えて活動した。
