温泉のあれこれ

大地の営みと気候が作った仙石原の景観
仙石原には約28000年前に仙石原湖というカルデラ湖が存在し、約3000年前に噴火により北半分が埋まり、その湖の名残が仙石原湿原なのだという。独特の気象条件により、湿原には大変貴重な植物の群落が見られるため、国の天然記念物になっている。また谷ヶ岳の斜面は、山焼きにより美しいススキの原を保ち、夏の一面の緑の草原や、風が金色の穂に波を描き吹き抜ける秋の景観は、ススキの名所の名にふさわしい情緒ある風情だ。
