You can visit Kotohira Shrine, which enshrines the god of the sea, and enjoy a stroll along the approach to the shrine, which has flourished as a temple town since ancient times.

Highlights

The hot springs were discovered in 1997, and have become popular as a tourist spot where you can enjoy both worship and the hot springs. The water, which gushes out from three sources at about 400 liters per minute, is colorless, transparent, and feels smooth on the skin.

温泉の名物

琴平町は“うどん屋発祥の地”
1200年前、空海（弘法大師）により唐から伝えられたと言われるうどん。空海の故郷讃岐で育まれ、こんぴらさんへ参詣に来た人々によって全国に伝えられました。また、「うどん屋発祥の地」としての記録が金刀比羅宮収蔵の金比羅祭礼図屏風の一部に描かれています。人々で賑わう町屋の一角で、うどんを打つ様子やうどんをゆでる釜のようなものが描かれ、既にうどん屋を生業としていることが分かります。散策の途中で小腹が空いたと感じたら、さくっと食べられるうどんが琴平の名物です。

温泉のあれこれ

「こんぴらさん」でしあわせまいり
参道口から御本宮まで785段、奥社まで1368段続く石段。両脇には灯籠や玉垣、お土産屋やうどん屋などが建ち並び、行き交う人々の目を楽しませる。一段ずつ踏みしめて登りきった先に佇むのが、「さぬきのこんぴらさん」こと金刀比羅宮。江戸時代より「こんぴら詣で」と称する参拝客を迎え入れ続けてきた由緒ある古社だ。金刀比羅宮と並んで町の名所に挙げられるのが、芝居小屋「旧金毘羅大芝居（金丸座）」。「こんぴら歌舞伎」と呼ばれる舞台が毎年行われ、地元住民はもちろん観光客にも親しまれている。
