Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo is the general name for eight hot springs (Matsukura Onsen, Shitodaira Onsen, Watari Onsen, Osawa Onsen, Yamanokami Onsen, Takakura Onsen, Namari Onsen, and Shin-Namari Onsen) scattered along the Toyosawa River in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture. Because they are located along the river, they are referred to as Onsenkyo rather than Onsen-go.

温泉の名物

漬かるほどに味わい深くなる金婚漬
「金婚漬」は花巻地方の名産品。うりの中に、にんじんや昆布巻を詰めた味噌漬けで、輪切りにすると鮮やかな色合いが食欲をそそる。江戸時代末頃からあるとされ、農家の保存食だった。漬物床の中で熟成させ、時が経つほどにいい味が出ることから、金婚式の夫婦になぞらえたとも、形が陸中海岸のナマコ（キンコ）に似ているのでこの名が付いたともされる。漬かるほどおいしいとされるので、数年漬け込まれたものも珍しくない。

温泉のあれこれ

宮沢賢治らが愛した大沢温泉
花巻南温泉峡のひとつ、大沢温泉は一軒宿。入口の看板は、相田みつをの書だ。川沿いの露天風呂が心地よい温泉で、江戸時代には歴代の南部藩主も利用。また、高村光太郎らの文人もよく使った。宮沢賢治も少年の頃、父親に連れられて、花巻仏教会の講習会場だったこの温泉を幾度となく訪れている。花巻農学校の教師時代にも、生徒たちを連れて湯浴みに来ていたというから、よほど気に入っていたと思われる。
