Highlights

Ihatov is the hometown of Kenji Miyazawa, and is also a hot spring associated with Kotaro Takamura. The rose bath at Hotel Koyokan is very relaxing.

温泉の名物

花巻発祥説がある名物の「わんこそば」
南部利直公が、花巻城で供された小盛りの椀そばを何杯もお代わりした故事が、「わんこそば」の発祥との説があり、「わんこそば全日本大会」が例年花巻市で開催されるなど、花巻の名物「わんこそば」は、地元の誇り高き食文化のひとつ。わんこ10杯がおおむねかけそば1杯といい、熱いそばつゆに通したものが出される。多く食べるにはお給仕との息の合わせ方や、無駄な動きをしないことが大事で、5分で250杯以上の記録があるという。

温泉のあれこれ

多品種のバラが咲き誇る広大なガーデン
宮沢賢治の作った花壇の跡地、広さ約5000坪に約450種約6000株ものバラが植栽されている「花巻温泉バラ園」。2010年にはアニバーサリーガーデンも新設され、園内オリジナルの「ホット花巻」など6品種をはじめ、70種類、約280株のバラが加わった。11月上旬頃まで開花が見られるほか、6月上旬～7月中旬の見ごろには「バラまつり」が開催され、温室では通年楽しめる。賢治設計の日時計花壇や、賢治が愛した品種のバラなども見どころ。
