温泉の名物

地域おこし型の人気の寿司駅弁
新幹線いわて沼宮内駅開業を祝い、2002年12月に登場した地域おこし型の寿司駅弁。岩手山の伏流水「金沢清水」で、3～4年かけて育てた、八幡平市の名物であるニジマスを使った、食べやすい押し寿司。米は県内産ひとめぼれを使い、白米のほか、三陸「野田塩」で仕上げた酢飯に地場産くるみを混ぜ込んだものがある。八幡平への旅の途中に食べてみたい。

温泉のあれこれ

絶景を走る日本百名道のひとつ
八幡平温泉と秋田県のトロコ温泉を結ぶ約27kmの区間は、「八幡平アスピーテライン」と呼ばれている。名山八幡平を横断する山岳ロードで、アオモリトドマツの樹海や岩手山、高山植物の群生などが見られる。見返り峠の駐車場から八幡平の山頂や八幡沼には遊歩道が整備されていて、観光の中心。見返り峠からは八幡平樹海ラインにつながっている。春の開通後も、道路両脇には数mの雪壁が残り、八幡平観光名物「雪の回廊」を楽しめる。
