山代温泉の名物菓子「れんの羊羹」
山代温泉の総湯前にある「れん永昌堂」のようかんは、初代が旅の僧から製法技術を学んで以来、約200年続く歴史あるようかん。小豆・寒天・砂糖のみの自然素材で作るヘルシーなもので、小豆の風味をしっかりと残しながらも、雑味のないほどよく上品な甘味が特徴。江戸時代には、加賀大聖寺藩十万石、前田家の御用菓子商を賜った、1819年創業の老舗の味と技術を守り続けている。

温泉のあれこれ

加賀藩の藩湯の名残を残す山代温泉
1300年の歴史を誇る古湯山代温泉は、江戸時代に藩湯として栄えた。加賀藩3代藩主前田利常は、堀口宗也を旅屋番に任命し、何度も湯治に訪れた。当時、藩主は上湯という特別な湯壷に入り、庶民は下湯に入った。山代温泉では、総湯と呼ばれる共同浴場を囲んで宿が建ち並ぶ、湯の曲輪という町並みが形成され、今もその形態が残されている。
