Tourist Attraction Information

There is Bentenzaki Gensen Park where you can enjoy a hand bath to warm your hands in the hot spring water, Tsumakoibune-no-Yu where you can enjoy a foot bath while looking out at Nanao Bay, and Yumoto no Hiroba where you can make hot spring eggs.

Highlights

Located on the Noto Peninsula, this hot spring is said to have been in operation for 1,200 years. The hot spring source is about 80 degrees Celsius and is said to be a sea hot spring, characterized by its rich salt content.

温泉の名物

能登伝統の珍味は、海からの贈り物
能登自慢の名物は「干くちこ」。三味線のバチに似ていることから「バチコ」とも呼ばれている。ナマコの卵巣に塩をし、細縄にかけ、ひとつひとつ手作業で丁寧に三角に干しあげたもの。軽く炙って、手で裂いて食べると、ひと噛みごとに口の中に、凝縮された海の滋養が広がってゆく。能登ならではの贅沢な酒のアテを、ぜひ味わってほしい。

温泉のあれこれ

海上に「涌浦の湯壷」を造成した加賀藩
古くは薬師谷の湯谷にあった源泉が地殻変動で移動し、永承年間に海で湧く温泉が再発見され「涌浦」と呼ばれた。能登畠山氏は源泉を石囲いし取湯したといわれ、前田利家の従者により二間四方の石島が築かれている。1641年には加賀藩主の命で、湯口を囲った湯壷のある湯島が造成された。加賀藩の統制の下でも名湯の評判が高まり、湯島に手舟で通う湯治客も増え、やがて島も拡張。幕末には京の公家も訪れる著名な温泉地となっている。
