Tourist Attraction Information

You can feel the breath of the earth from Kaiyodai, which overlooks the horizon, Mt. Iou, and the sand baths of Lake Kussharo. The views of Lake Mashu from Bihoro Pass and the observation deck are also spectacular.

酪農家のこだわりが生きるミルクの料理
道東の根釧台地は日本屈指の酪農地帯。なかでも中標津町はおいしい牛乳の産出で名を馳せ、養老牛地域では40戸の酪農家が営農している。養老牛温泉の各ホテルでは、自給牧草の給餌中心に、365日の完全放牧を行なう山本牧場の「養老牛放牧牛乳」が提供されるほか、1人前約400mlを使ったミルク料理を用意。貴重な初乳で作る牛乳豆腐や、ミルクの寄せ鍋、ポテトのミルク煮など、大地の恵み豊かな味わい深い牛乳料理が堪能できる。

温泉のあれこれ

国民的映画の舞台になった風情ある秘湯
2009年公開の映画「釣りバカ日誌20ファイナル」は、北海道が舞台で、俳優の西田敏行氏演じる「ハマちゃん」と故三國連太郎氏の「スーさん」が熱演を披露した。養老牛温泉ではメインキャストの取材会見が行なわれ、「旅館藤や」で宴会シーン撮影のほか、松坂慶子さん、吹石一恵さん、塚本高史さんらキャストによる北海道ロケ記者会見も行なわれた。養老牛の湯はシリーズ最終作に力を注いだ名優や、スタッフの癒しにもなっている。
