温泉の名物

然別湖名物といえば、オショロコマ料理
然別湖には、ミヤベイワナといわれるオショロコマの亜種が生息。これは然別湖の固有種で天然記念物にも指定されている。現在は、鹿追町により孵化事業が行われるほか、民間養魚場で養殖されたものが、然別湖畔温泉にある2軒の温泉ホテルや町内の食事処で提供される。ミネラル豊富な水で育ったオショロコマには川魚特有のくせがなく、あっさりした味わいで塩焼きにしても唐揚げにしても美味。土産品として甘露煮も販売されている。

然別湖でできる貴重な体験
冬期に完全氷結する然別湖の冬の名物が「しかりべつ湖コタン」。コタンとは集落を意味するアイヌ語で、期間中は湖畔や湖上に氷の建物・イグルーが点在する村ができ上がる。「アイスバー」や「アイスロッジ」、「アイスチャペル」などがあるほか、氷上露天風呂も出現。脱衣場も雪と氷で造られており、混浴・男性専用・女性専用の時間帯が設けられる。ここでしか入れない氷上の温泉は利用無料なので、ぜひ体験してみたい。
