温泉の名物

マリモ似のキュートなお菓子が続々登場
「まり～む羊羹」は、マリモの国特別天然記念物指定60周年にお目見えした商品で、おなじみの名物「まりも羊羹」の姉妹品。「まりも羊羹」同様丸く膨らむゴムに充填されていて、楊枝でつつくとゴムが弾け生クリーム入りの羊羹が登場。餡とクリームのハーモニーが絶妙と人気の品だ。そのほか、やはりゴムで丸く成型された濃厚なカスタード風味の「まりもプリン」も人気で、高さのある器によそい、カラメルをかけていただく。

温泉のあれこれ

アイヌ文化と世界観に触れる聖なる催し
松浦武四郎が踏査した1858年には、周辺居住のアイヌがこの温泉を利用していたとの記録があり、道内最大級のアイヌコタンが隣接する阿寒湖温泉。阿寒湖アイヌシアターでは、ユネスコの世界無形文化遺産としても登録される「イオマンテの火まつり」が期間限定で行なわれ、貴重なアイヌの文化を今に伝える。イオマンテとは「イ（もの）」＋「オマンテ（送る）」という意味で、動物の姿の神霊を天に送る、勇壮な魂送りの祭礼だ。
