大崎上島は、自然豊かな瀬戸内海に囲まれた温暖な島で、海の食材、島の食材ともに恵まれている。宿では、その地元の新鮮食材をふんだんに使った料理が提供される。鯛やアナゴの石焼きや、じゃこ天、活イカ、生ダコなどのほか、オコゼの唐揚げやメバルの押し寿司など、季節の料理も見逃せない。ミカンやレモン、ブルーベリーなどの素材も、料理に深みを与えている。

温泉のあれこれ

一人角力と国宝の宝庫の大山祇神社
大山祇神社は大三島のシンボル。原始林楠群に囲まれた境内奥の宝物館には、平安から江戸初期までの鎧、兜や刀剣など武具類が収められている。その数は小物類を含め数万点に上る。国宝では、源義経奉納の赤絲威鎧、源頼朝奉納の紫綾威鎧、斉明天皇奉納の禽獣葡萄鏡などが有名。6月の御田植祭では、目に見えない稲の精霊と相撲をとる一人角力（県の無形民俗文化財）が奉納される。時間があれば足をのばしたいスポットだ。
