温泉の名物

天然水と生産技術が生む幻のグルメ米
武尊山の湧水が集まるこの地は、古くから稲作が盛ん。天然水で育つ米の食味が素晴らしく、戦前には宮中に米を献上した記録も残る。「雪ほたか」は、栽培履歴や等級、食味の基準をクリアした、川場村内のコシヒカリに授けられるブランドで、一般には流通しない「幻の米」とされてきたが、近年では川場温泉の宿や、村内のいくつかの施設でも食べられるようになったので、ぜひともその「幻のおいしさ」を味わってみたい。

温泉のあれこれ

霊峰武尊山の南斜面でおいしく実る果物
武尊山の南斜面に広がる標高約500mの川場村は、さんさんと照る太陽光をしっかり受け止めるとともに、豊かな湧水に恵まれた果樹栽培の適地。昼夜の寒暖差のため果実の糖度が上がり、抜群においしくなることで知られる。さくらんぼやブルーベリー、ぶどう、りんごなどの栽培も多く、季節には各所にフルーツ狩りの観光農園がオープンし、食べごろが近づくと近隣にも甘いフルーツの香りが漂う。新鮮な完熟を楽しめるのも現地ならでは。
