Tourist Attraction Information

The hot spring town with its stone steps and the Takehisa Yumeji Ikaho Memorial Museum are very charming. The view from Kaminoyama Park is wonderful, and Lake Haruna is nearby.

温泉の名物

温泉饅頭の元祖、伊香保「本舗勝月堂」
温泉饅頭の発祥は伊香保の「本舗勝月堂」。地元の古老に温泉を代表する名物をと提案され、江ノ島土産の「片瀬饅頭」をヒントに、伊香保温泉の湯の花の色のような黒糖入りの茶色い皮の饅頭を考案し、1910年に「湯の花饅頭」として発売した。1934年の昭和天皇のお買い上げ後、全国の温泉に茶色の饅頭が広まったとされる。伊香保温泉では現在10店舗余りが「湯の花饅頭」を発売。湯気を上げての店頭販売の光景は、温泉情緒たっぷりだ。

温泉のあれこれ

竹下夢二も心魅かれた伊香保の街と温泉
約420年前に古来の共同湯「黄金の湯」から上に造成された長い石段が今の温泉街のもと。風情ある石段は現在は365段を数え、今も温泉のシンボルとなっている。伊香保は滝沢馬琴や徳冨蘆花など多くの文人墨客に愛されたが、竹下夢二もそのひとりで、1919年に初めて訪れた夢二は、最愛の恋人を失った後も、たびたび伊香保を訪ね、湯に癒された。1930年には「榛名山美術研究所」の構想を発表し、近隣の榛名湖畔にアトリエを設けている。
