It is famous for the former Japanese National Railways Full Moon commercial. This is a secret hot spring with a long history, and the legend of its discovery by Kobo Daishi, "Hoshi-no-yu," is that the water naturally bubbles up from under your feet.

温泉の名物

風情ある湯殿と客室棟2つは国の文化財
国の登録有形文化財の客室棟と湯殿で知られる一件宿「長寿館」は、江戸時代の旅籠の趣きの感じられる温泉宿。客室棟の本館は1895年の建築で、20番の間は与謝野晶子が逗留したという。また、法師川に面した別館は1940年の建築。法師乃湯は浴槽の底から自然湧出している温泉で、足元は玉石敷きだ。鹿鳴館調とも表現される1895年建築の湯殿は、イギリス人鉄道技師の手で設計されたもので、アーチ形の窓が並ぶ和洋折衷の珍しい様式。

温泉のあれこれ

フルムーンのCMで知られた「法師乃湯」
1981年より放映された旧国鉄「フルムーン夫婦グリーンパス」のCMは、上原謙と高峰三枝子が熟年夫婦を演じ話題となった。往年スターの湯浴みシーンが大評判となり視聴者の旅愁を誘ったが、その舞台が法師温泉の「法師乃湯」である。レトロな総檜造りの湯船は、今も当時のまま。基本的に混浴だが、20：00～22：00は女性専用。新設の内湯と野天風呂も別にあり、そちらは女性専用と男性専用の時間がある。
