温泉の名物

奥飛騨が育んだ香り高い山椒
飛騨の山椒は、古くからこの地域で自生していた、香りの強い優れた品種で、江戸時代に天領だった飛騨の郡代が、徳川将軍に献上したほど。今でも7月末から8月にかけて、実を1房ずつ手で収穫し、陰干し・天日干しをし、種と皮を分け皮のみを杵と石臼でつき粉にする。さわやかな柑橘系の香りの飛騨山椒は風味がよく、鰻や焼き鳥、中華料理などのほか、様々な料理に合う。

温泉のあれこれ

奥飛騨随一の名水「タルマ水」
乗鞍岳の麓、一重ヶ根の山間から湧き出る「タルマ水」は、奥飛騨随一の名水とされる。昔、美少女「たるま姫」が、村上天皇に差し上げ、病を治したと伝わり、この水を日頃から飲む里人には長寿が多く、健康で体の麻痺等がないので「卒中封じの水」と呼ばれる。宿や飲食店などで料理や飲料水として使われているほか、温泉地内にタルマ水の飲泉場が数ヶ所ある。また、親水公園には、タルマ水が滴り落ちる「たるまの滝」もある。
