Tourist Attraction Information

The trailhead on the Hida side of Mt. Ontake. From the Ontake Panorama Line up to Nigorigo Onsen, you can get a panoramic view of Mt. Ontake and the longest lava flow in Japan.

温泉の名物

御嶽山の伝統生薬「百草丸」
古来、御嶽信仰の広がりとともに、木曽御嶽の「御神薬」の百草が修験者により各地に広まったのが、御嶽山の生薬「百草丸」。現在では、御嶽山の南山麓で、長野県製薬（御岳百草丸）と日野製薬（御嶽山日野百草丸）が製造している。ミカン科の落葉高木「キハダ」の樹皮の内側の木の層の、オウバクを主成分とした胃腸薬で、明治以降は兵士の常備薬として人気となった。今でも地元では家庭の常備薬として愛用されている。

温泉のあれこれ

霊峰御嶽山の登山口としての濁河温泉
濁河温泉は、霊峰御嶽山の6合目、標高約1800mの飛騨側の登山口付近に位置し、御嶽山の開山と共に、江戸時代中頃に発見されたと伝えられている。御嶽信仰の歴史は古く、初めは修験道の場として栄え、中世時代から民間信仰と結びつき、御嶽独自の山岳信仰に発展したとされる。同時に集団登拝の風習も生まれ、現在でも登山拝が行われている。御嶽山の山頂には、御嶽神社奧社が鎮座する。
