温泉の名物

昭和天皇がお疲れを癒したメレンゲ菓子
創業1899年の浅野耕月堂の「松乃露」は、初代の久太郎氏が考案した銘菓。越前海岸の松林に自生するきのこ「松露」をイメージし、新鮮な卵白と砂糖をメレンゲにしてさっくりと焼き、コーヒーの粉で自然の土を表現したもので、熟練した職人が手作業で日々焼き上げる繊細な口溶けが印象的だ。1947年の巡幸の際に、ご宿泊先でお寛ぎの昭和天皇が「松露」のお代わりを所望されたとの逸話があり、地域を代表する滋養銘菓として知られる。

温泉のあれこれ

山車に芸妓や花魁も登場する春のまつり
例年4月29日に開催される「芦原温泉春まつり」は、温泉を守護する「舟津温泉薬師堂」「田中温泉薬師神社」「二面温泉薬師堂」の三薬師の祭礼で、芸妓による艶やかな踊りの奉納を皮切りに、神輿に続いて「人形山車」「桜山車」「太鼓山車」が町中を練り歩き、終日賑わう。
