温泉の名物

坊っちゃん団子と一六タルト
道後温泉の代表的お土産といえば、「坊っちゃん団子」と「一六タルト」。夏目漱石が道後温泉に行った帰りに食べたといわれるだんごにちなんで作られた「坊ちゃん団子」は、小豆、白餡、抹茶3色の餡でくるんで串に刺しただんご。「一六タルト」は、久松家初代松山藩主・松平定行公が長崎から伝えたといわれる銘菓で、餡には皮むき小豆のみを使用。ゆずは四国産の生ゆず、砂糖は最高級の白双糖と、素材にも製法にもこだわっている。

温泉のあれこれ

夏目漱石と道後温泉
1895年、英語教師として松山の中学校に赴任していた夏目漱石は、「坊っちゃん」や彼の手紙の中で道後温泉について、「ほかの所は何を見ても東京の足元にも及ばないが、温泉だけは立派なものだ」といい、さらに「よほど立派なる建物にて、八銭出すと三階に上がり、茶を飲み、菓子を食い、湯に入れば頭まで石鹸で洗ってくれるような始末、随分結構に御座候」として高い評価をしている。道後の湯がよほど気にいっていたようだ。
