Tourist Attraction Information

The 4km walking trail along the Yagen Gorge Stream is a great way to enjoy a stroll in about an hour. The Kamafusayama Observatory, ski resort, Lake Usori, and Mount Osore are also nearby.

Kappa no Yu, a mixed outdoor bath near Okuyagenbashi Bridge, and Futo Kappa no Yu, a separate bath for men and women, offer views while soaking.

美林として知られる「青森ヒバ」
薬研温泉はヒバの原生林に囲まれているだけあって、ヒバ造りの浴室や浴槽を自慢とする宿が多い。そして秋田の杉、木曽の檜とともに美林として知られる青森ヒバは、肌触り・香り・強さ・堅さともに優れ、成分がアトピーに効くなどたくさんの長所がある。この素晴らしい特性を生かした工芸品もお土産品として人気。さらにはヒバから抽出した油脂を使ったヒバ石鹸やヒバシャンプーも愛好者が多い。

温泉のあれこれ

薬研温泉の原生林と紅葉
下北半島国定公園内に位置し、大畑川沿いに続く渓谷にある薬研温泉と奥薬研温泉は、観光地としても有名。周囲の山には原生林が繁り、川面に映える緑や紅葉が美しい景観を生む。例年10月中旬から下旬にかけて青森ヒバやブナのほか、ヤマザクラ、ヤマツツジ、モミジが色づき、湯に浸かりながら色鮮やかな紅葉を楽しめる。また例年10月には、「薬研温泉紅葉まつり」が開催され、地元の味覚を味わえる。
