温泉の名物

自然の味と堅さが魅力の犬山伝統の飴
犬山名物「げんこつ飴」は、厳骨庵、藤澤製菓、高田屋製菓などで製造されていて、160年の歴史を持つ和菓子。その昔、犬山城主が陣中食として、家臣に振る舞ったとも伝わる。黒砂糖を煮詰め、きな粉や水飴を加えて練り上げて作ったヘルシーな飴で、形は店により、三角形や俵型など異なるが、こぶしの形に似ていることから「げんこつ飴」の名が付いた。最初は硬い飴が、口の中で次第にキャラメルのように柔らかく変身していくのが面白い。

温泉のあれこれ

国の重要無形民俗文化財「犬山祭」
犬山祭は1635年に始まる針綱神社の祭礼で、毎年4月の第1土・日曜に開催。メインは車山巡行。県の有形民俗文化財指定の3層の豪華な車山が13台繰り出し、笛や太鼓に合わせ、江戸時代から伝わるカラクリ人形が、変化に富んだ演技を見せる。夜は、各車山に365個もの提灯が灯され、満開の桜並木の本町通を縫って練り歩く様子は、絢爛豪華な時代絵巻そのもの。「どんでん館」では、祭りに登場する高さ8mの車山を4台、随時展示している。
