What is the Aomori Nebuta Festival?

The Aomori Nebuta Festival is a summer festival that takes place every year from Aug. 2nd to 7th in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture.
It was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 1980 and is known as one of the three major festivals Tohoku, attracting many tourists from all over the country.
Large, illuminated nebuta (lanterns) are placed on floats and paraded through the streets.
In addition to the impressive Nebuta floats, the shouts of "Rassera, rassera" by the dancers called "Haneto" also liven up the festival.

青森ねぶた祭の歴史

青森ねぶた祭は、毎年8月に開催される夏祭りで、300年以上の歴史を持つといわれています。七夕祭りの灯籠流しや眠り流しの風習が起源とされています。

見どころ

色鮮やかな和紙の装飾と立体的な造形が特徴の大型ねぶたが、「ラッセラー！」の掛け声とともに街を練り歩く姿は、青森ねぶた祭最大の見どころです。太鼓や笛による囃子、跳人（はねと）の声が一体となり、会場全体が熱気に包まれます。

跳人（はねと）とは？

跳人とは「ラッセラー」の掛け声とともに、ねぶたの周囲で跳ね踊る参加者のこと。正装を着用すれば誰でも参加可能で、祭りの臨場感を肌で感じられるのが魅力。参加して楽しめるのも青森ねぶた祭ならではです。

囃子（はやし）とは？

青森ねぶた祭の囃子は、「笛・太鼓・手振り鉦（かね）」による力強い音色が特徴です。軽快でリズミカルな囃子が祭りを盛り上げ、観客の高揚感を一層引き立てます。

海上運行とは？

青森ねぶた祭の最終日には、ねぶたが海へと進む「海上運行」が行われます。青森港を舞台に、ライトアップされたねぶたが水面に映し出される光景は、陸上運行とは違った幻想的な美しさが魅力です。

青森花火大会とは？

最終日には、青森ねぶた祭のフィナーレを飾る花火大会が開催されます。夜空を彩る大輪の花火と、海上運行されるねぶたの共演は、青森ねぶた祭の感動的なクライマックスです。

秋田竿燈まつり（イメージ）

竹竿に多くの提灯を吊るし、その竿を額や腰でバランスを取りながら持ち上げる技術を競うお祭りです。夜空に提灯の光が浮かび上がり、稲の豊作を祈る伝統的な儀式が行われます。

: "Nebuta" and "Neputa" are both names of summer festivals held in Aomori Prefecture, and there are differences in the name depending on the region. Aomori City is called "Nebuta Festival", Hirosaki City is called "Neputa Festival", Goshogawara City is called "Tachinaputa", Aomori is three-dimensional and large doll-shaped, Hirosaki is fan-shaped, and Goshogawara is characterized by a huge float with a high height, and the chanting of "Russeller" and "Yayado (Neputa)" are also different.
